Springfontein eats

Standard

This has been a whirlwind of a time. Where do I even start?

The long weekend away (my last post…) had us eat out at springfontein eats– we opted for a four course meal and ended up with 6 extra little somethings. 10 plates! All incredible.

Supposedly, the chef goes out on his bicycle and forages for his veggies and finds his inspiration for his food and menu. His menus can change from lunch to lunch, lunch to dinner and dinner to dinner!

Though, mrs poodle is more adventurous than me, so I avoided the seafood and weird meats. I have photos (sadly not of all of them!) the chef and his wife are originally from Germany, and supposedly he has had a Michelin star for more than 18 years! Here are some photos:

Lentils 3 ways? With sweet breads -amuse Bouche

I struggle to remember this one but something to do with ?parnsip purée and grated pear and sesame

Mrs p had this: quail with corn 3 ways

I had this: faked truffle and mushroom ravioli

We both had the fillet main- it was wonderful!!!

Goats cheese with onion compote

Dessert: sorrel soup – this one was so unexpected and a real firecracker. It was delicious! It was cold, with an icecream or foam or something in the middle that tasted of almond. The green part itself tasted slightly herby but with a citrus/grape feel. Mrs poodle loved it.

I had this plum and nougat terrine which was also good, but probably not as good as the sorrel soup.

?quince sorbet – an extra dessert

And an extra dessert: an assortment of treats!

We had a magical time, at the fireplace, with lovely chats and many exclamations of oh how yum!

Stanford hills getaway

Standard

We are away in Stanford, staying in a little cottage which is in the Stanford hills estate. Stanford is a small town just after hermanus, and so far, we haven’t actually been into the town, but we have had the most magical time.

This weekend: no laptops, no series, no work, no interruptions.

It’s so great to get away. It’s really pretty here.

Last night we chatted for hours and hours and spoke about hundreds of things, and about getting engaged and actually looking online at potential wedding venues. We are excited. I got an indoor fire going, which was convenient since the power went out at 8pm and we hadn’t eaten yet, so we then had a romantic crackling fire and a cozy couch to tangle up on and chat away. I got a grill paddle thing and put some boerewors and steak on and used the inside fire to cook them- delicious and quick.

We chatted until we fell asleep, on the couch, wrapped up in each other. When we woke up to move to the room, the fire was dead. We must have been asleep for a while.

My love pie is still fast asleep, though she noticed when I wasn’t next to her, yelling,”poodle poodle where are you?” In the sleepiest voice I may have ever heard.

This evening I have made a reservation at a restaurant called Springfontein Eats. The chef has a Michelin star, and we’ll have a 4 course dinner (which comes with 2 extra little courses at the beginning and at the end!). Supposedly this is rated as one of the best restaurants in the Western Cape.

This will count as our anniversary dinner, since tomorrow will be three and a half years of love! My tummy is grumbling already!

Here are some pictures of our little cottage:
