Sally sick sack & a PS or two

Standard

My poodle is ill. And feisty- so this means a bit of a wobbly as she exclaims, “I’m ill, ahhh” and “I need medicine”, in between about four hundred sneezes, sniffles and eye rubbing. I’ve been checking her temperature but she hates that. She’s fast asleep and fully dosed up on a good array of meds which will hopefully mean she gets some good rest in.

My throat is prickly and I do not want to get sick. I want to do my last bit of volunteering next week without unnecessary interruptions- I have already had to deal with kitchen renovations this week (which I feel may never end) {summary: burst pipe in the middle of the night while we were sleeping a while ago= flooded kitchen and most of the ground floor of our house- kitchen cupboards soaked up water and swelled- owners of house are redoing the kitchen}. Anyway, I want to work, gym (and swim) and enjoy our time away next weekend. We are taking a long weekend before I start working and we’ll be going to Stanford (SA). I can’t wait! Just us and a beautiful little place! More to come.

The cat has been more assertive. I have been more assertive with the cat too: it now responds to a dog whistle. Am trying to teach it to sit but it looks at me as though she is pharaoh and I am a royal servant.

I drank some med-lemon, which I despise, but I am fighting this battle guns blazing. I refuse to catch these germies. If I do, bye bye voice! Again!

Ps. I am not ready for the coldness of winter. I am, however, ready for lots of delicious big jerseys.

Ps again: it’s our 3 and half year anniversary (!!?!??!!!) next week while we are away- anyone have any cute suggestions for the occasion? (thanks!)

Guest Blog: I can’t feel my toes

Standard

It’s freezing in Cape Town. I can’t remember ever being this cold and for those of you who’ve ever been to or lived in Cape Town, or if you have a Capetonian friend, you’ll know we don’t do cold very well at all. We like having fun, and not working too hard which all means we like the sun, NEED the sun. So when she leaves us like this weekend, we do what any angry child would do – we sulk. And so yes, we’ve been home all weekend, in bed predominately (yes… it has been as fun as it sounds but shh Mrs. Poodle will kill me if she knows I said that) waiting for the sun to come back to us.

We haven’t had much going on lately other than Project Health. Mrs. Poodle has been telling you that it is going well, but I’m here to tell you the truth.

Sunday – Mrs. Poodle tried to convince me that we shouldn’t eat our soup we chose but rather have “a last toasted cheese” as she called it. I declined, we ate the soup.

Monday – She was quite grumpy. I assumed it was about the meal plan and realizing I was very committed

Tuesday – I get home and the first thing Mrs. Poodle tells me is that the “Burger Den” is open on the weekends. This is a place close to her work which sells fast food. I said when on the weekend, she said she’d find out

Wednesday – I get home and Mrs. Poodle says a doctor at work was eating chicken and chips from the “Burger Den” and it looked “SO GOOD”. She then asked when we would have our cheat meal over the weekend. I changed the subject – I didn’t want to cheat on the weekend

Thursday – In all honesty a difficult day for both of us, we fell asleep hungry. I was hungry through the night. But we survived.

By the time it got to Friday, I decided to agree that we could have a slight cheat so we bought 1 cinnamon bun each and an olive roasted French loaf from Woolies to eat with our soup instead of normal bread. This was very yum. This I felt was the cheat for the weekend and that was the end, but NO.

Mrs. Poodle has claimed “strawberry” (look it up in the glossary) insanity and so 1) Yesterday she baked macarons (see previous post) which she proceeded to eat yesterday & then again for breakfast this morning and I suggested she get a fast food meal for lunch because she looked so upset about what we were going to eat for lunch. She ate the meal and is now happily lying on our bed. Amazing what some fat can do.

She’s such a cutie though. I love that she’s trying to be supportive of my eating plan even if it means she cheats now and then. Though I’m not going to lie, eating a healthy sandwich while you watch your girlfriend eat a double burger with chips, is a true test of love. Luckily there is still lots of it in Poodle-ville.

Also, whilst she was folding the laundry she randomly screamed “Shake it like you mean it” and turned around to shake her bum at me. Er? I know, I was as shocked. Last thing: She has always claimed to love sewing and so today while folding I asked if she could sew the seam in a pair of my pants as it tore slightly, and the truth came out. She confessed to hating sewing. I knew it! That said, she tried and did a lovely job. What a wonderful poodle pie.

How much longer until Friday?

Welcome to July!

Standard

Welcome to July, everyone!

Mrs. Poodle and I have been trying to operate “project health”- which really appears to be a project. Anyway, we are eating properly with no sugary or carb-y snacks and are trying to kick- start the process to which we can hopefully soon say, “my pants are lose again!” – the joys of winter, I tell you! Winter is like a code sentence for, “come here fat, come stick to me, expand me, make me only want to wear comfy pajamas”. Winter is so mean. The weather thus far has been really pleasant though. At night we’re warm because hello, body heat, and in the day my hospital temperature is regulated which means I don’t have to wear long sleeves.

We went to a comedy night on Friday- it was very funny! Mrs. Sheree Poodle laughed and laughed and laughed the loudest out of everyone. I love her laugh – it also makes me laugh- because it is so loud and happy. We had cocktails through the show- she ordered cosmopolitans and I ordered this pineapple and ginger martini which appeared to have no alcohol at all. It tasted pretty good.

I just found myself distracted and I went through my cellphone videos- they’re of my dog, and of Sheree at random intervals. I had a good chuckle.

Sunday we spent hanging out after doing grocery shopping. We had to have breakfast because we were so hungry- so we had huge muffins and then a big cooked breakfast- she has a breakfast burrito and I had scrambled eggs, bacon, tomatoes and toast. Hanging out is simply the best.

Last night Sheree got home around 17h45 and I made a snack and she said we can eat at 7h30. She later told me it was 7h30 and that I should make dinner- which I did. We ate, cleaned, made lunch for the next day and went upstairs. The time was only 7h30. She read the time wrong. So we had what felt like endless hours before bed- on a week night! A true miracle!

Tonight appears to be even more of a miracle- all done before 7pm.

Maybe we’re ready for babies. Ha!

A bit of a catch-up sesh (+ photos!)

Mrs Poodle bunked her last week’s post. She will need punishment. Ha!

Life has been so good these past 8 or so days- we even had a long weekend! The Mrs and I thoroughly enjoyed the long weekend and the way it took its sweet time. We hung out and romanced and even watched a movie. Mrs. Poodle decided that she actually likes going to the movies with me, because I make it fun and we get to be all cozy and romantic together which is gorgeous.

I cooked (an extravagant dinner) on Friday evening- starter of potato and leek soup, then a chicken and veg green thai curry pie with a deliciously brown pastry, and dessert being lemon cheesecake. We were so full, we rolled ourselves to bed! It was a deliciously successful evening.

The rest of the weekend we spent enjoying each other’s company and not having to wake up so early. Though, I have been enjoying the sleeping-in while Mrs Poodle gets ready for work in the week- nothing like that feeling! I wish she could just stay home too though. I have a few days left of my holiday before I go back to work. I feel like I have been away from work for a month but it has only been a week and a half.

Oh- we went to the plastic warehouse again- we left with pretty much only what we needed, though only because Sheree is good at keeping us focused. I love that place. We even saw this huge plastic playhouse for kids to play in- our babies would love that.

One of my best friends has been on holiday at the same time as me and we have been having a great time being random and chatting and just being us. This has included some adventures around our beautiful Cape Town city and the seapoint promenade, the V&A Waterfront, Beefcakes (for some burgers and cocktails)- here I ate “babycakes” which you can see in one of the photos below! Despite it being the winter, it has been beautiful and even warm! I’ve been surfing and I even managed a tan (which you can also see below)!

Mrs. Poodle and I really actually don’t have that many photos together because she thinks it’s weird to pose for photos. Ha! Well, we do have a fair amount because of my demands!

Sheree just said that she suspects she will get fan mail now because she looks great in this photo!

On the go slow

Standard

Being on holiday has been great. I have been wishing the week to slow down and Mrs. poodle has been wishing it to hurry- so that it can be the weekend, so that we can hang out for hours and hours and hours- even though we live together.

The weather has been lovely today but as soon as the sun went down I was in search of cuddles for warmth and well, I’m sleepy because I had some treats and I think the sugar overload gives me a bit of a crash. Anyway, mrs. Poodle is about to come put her cold feet on me. TEARS!

Fast forward 12 hours and we are here: another beautiful day with only the tiniest breeze. Today I’ll be going surfing!

Yesterday mrs. Poodle went to this training thing where you learn about what color you are (red, green, blue, yellow) and what it means about you in the work place and strategies etc. turns out mrs poodle is a red. We knew this though! This company made a whole personalized booklet all about her from the day’s activities she had been doing. She read it all to me. We also tried to figure out what my color was but we weren’t really sure. I’m most likely the inspirer.
